Biography

Alfred "Fred" de Souza Morgado was born on the 25th of March 1919 in Hilo, Hawaii. He was the son of Manuel de Souza Morgado Sr and Philomena Pereira.[1] Fred first appeared on a census record when he was just nine months old.[1] His father Manuel was working as a Locomotive Engineer. His siblings Vera, John, Joseph, Emelia and Jacintho all attended school.[1] His mother Philomena stayed home and took care of him, his five-year-old brother Manuel and his three-year-old sister Alice.[1]

Fred was age eleven when the next census was taken. His father was fifty-four years old and still working for the railroad.[2] His mother was forty-six and took care of their home and family.[2] His brother Joseph worked as a Laborer for the Public Road department while his brother Jason worked as an Attendant at a Service Station.[2] His sister Emily worked as a Saleswoman for Dry Goods.[2] Fred attended school along with Manuel, Alice, Frank and Clarence.[2]

Fred married Rosa "Rose" Pedro Pacheco on the 17th of June 1939 in Hilo.[3] Fred and Rose had at least three children together.[4] When the 1940 census was taken, none of the children had been born yet.[5] Fred was twenty-one and working as a Collector for a Collection Agency, while Rose stayed at home.[5] He was renting their home on Keokea Loop Road and had made $1800 in wages the previous year.[5]

Fred's wife Rose died in 1998, at the age of eighty.[6] Fred lived to the age of eighty-eight, taking his last breath on the 24th of May 2007.[4] Per his Obituary he had been a retired Resident Manager.[4] Fred was laid to rest at the Homelani Memorial Park in Hilo.[4] He was survived by two sons, fourteen grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren.
